WOW Zone Real Food Project
At the WOW Zone we have been working in partnership with the Real Food Project. The Real Food project aims to involve people in and around Wythenshawe with growing their own fruit and vegetables to eat. Here at the WOW Zone we have been busy with the children, at the allotments growing produce such as potatoes, onions and various salad items. Here in the WOW Zone classroom we have been growing leeks, tomatoes, cucumber, courgettes, peas and beans.
We have been working with the children and the kitchen staff, showing them how to prepare the fresh produce, in the Woodhouse Park Lifestyle centre kitchen. We cooked a three course dinner of fruit skewers for starter, homemade pizza for main and shortbreads for desert.
As part of the project, we have visited Wythenshawe Community Farm, who is also working in partnership with the Real Food Project. The children were able to see how the farm have grown their own produce to sell to the community. We were also able to find out how the animals are used to produce products such as milk, eggs and meat.
